Welcome to English 505 online!

If you are looking at this web site, then that means you’ve found the place for English 505:  Rhetoric of Science and Technology.  There’s a lot more to come to this “work in progress” web site and class.  But to get started, first watch this short video, which goes over some of the highlights of the course requirements and schedule.

Second, be sure to post here a brief comment to introduce yourself to your classmates, and also to ask any questions about the class requirements you might have at this point.

Third, while I won’t be requiring folks to have a WordPress account this term (you won’t be required to keep a blog), I do think it’d be a good idea if you set up your own gravatar for this page so we get some kind of face with your name on the site.

Hi Everyone. I am Adam, I am apart of the Written Communications for Teachers Graduate Program. This is my last semester of classes, before I write and continue my endless research of my writing project. I am really interested in the art of writing and how technology has come to change and reshape that what writing is.
Question for Krause, what is the password for eReserves? I did not see it up on the description.

    • Steve Krause says

Good question! I just sent everyone an email with it, but there’s a pretty good chance that if you have had a class from me before, you know the password….

Hey– My name is Ashlee Wolfe and, like Adam, I am in my last semester of classes before venturing into my Masters Project. I am in the Written Communication program for the Teaching of Writing. The ever-changing role of rhetoric in writing, technology, education, language acquisition, etc. has been a constant interest of mine. I am excited to take this class to build on what I know. No questions from me (for now)! I look forward to chatting virtually and in person with everyone.

    Hi Everyone –

My name is Becky and this is my first semester working towards my Master’s in Professional Writing. I have my Bachelor’s in Business Mgmt, so writing is a bit of a transistion for me, but I am definitely up for the challenge. I am looking forward to learning more about the history of language, and it will be nice to meet you all!

  7. Brian Schick says

Hey there. I’m Brian and I’m currently working on my Written Communication masters with the focus on Professional Writing. I’m about a third of the way through and this will be my second online class at EMU. Currently, I am a technical writer in U-M’s IT department, so the notion of discussing rhetoric as it apples to technology intrigues me. Look forward to working with all of you!

    • Brian Schick says

Hmm, somehow I doubt we will cover how rhetoric “apples” to technology, but they sure are yummy!

  8. Nicole says

    Hello everyone!

My name is Nicole. This is hopefully my second to last semester at EMU. I am in the Written Communications program for professional writing. I got my bachelor’s degree in english lit and journalism. I hope that this degree will give me an edge to get a job (haha)! So far this program has been interesting and I’m hoping to learn a lot more.
    I have no questions yet!

Hey everybody, my name is Graham and this is my second semester in the Professional Writing MA program here at Eastern. I have a BA in English from MSU and I’m about to start (yet another) contract as a technical writer at Thomson Reuters in Dexter. No questions at the moment.
